New ferry route between San Pedro de Macorís and Puerto Rico to start in July

President Luis Abinader announced that the new route of Ferries del Caribe, departing from San Pedro de Macorís to Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, every day, will be from next July.

“A daily route starting next July of this year, which will bring new horizons to the Sultan of the East, impacting tourism and the economy of the region,” he said.

He informed that “the new route between Mayagüez and San Pedro de Macorís, with a trip of 133 nautical miles and a duration of six hours, will have the capacity to transport approximately 1,000 passengers, 350 vehicles and 300 containers to Dominican soil”.

It is recalled that the Dominican Port Authority (Apordom) and the Spanish company Balearia presented at the last International Tourism Fair (Fitur 2024), the processes to convert the Port of San Pedro de Macoris in one where cargo and tourism coexist between this province and Mayaguez.

Currently, there is a ferry route between the DR and Puerto Rico, with trips on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays with fixed departures at 6:00 pm.

From San Juan, the Puerto Rican capital, to Santo Domingo, the company that operates them is Ferries del Caribe. It travels on Mondays, Wednesdays and Sundays on the same schedule already mentioned.
