La Romana becomes home port for Norwegian cruise ships

The Norwegian Sky cruise ship has begun to use the Dominican Republic as a Home Port, departing from the tourist terminal of La Romana, giving way to one of the goals of the Dominican Port Authority (Apordom) to turn the country into a Hub for cruises in the region.

The director of the Dominican Port Authority, Jean Luis Rodríguez, enthusiastically highlighted the positioning of the Dominican Republic as the preferred port of call for Norwegian cruises departing from La Romana.

He stated that “this milestone consolidates our position as a top maritime destination, offering exceptional experiences to cruise visitors by combining the beauty of La Romana and the quality of service in our port that further strengthens the country’s maritime and tourism industry”.

The ship of the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet, one of the most famous cruise companies in the world, will depart from La Romana with prices ranging from US$1,500.00 to US$1,900.00.

For 2024, the company has planned five departures, the first one from January 29 to February 12, 2024; the second departure from February 12 to 16, 2024; the third departure from February 26 to March 11, 2024; a fourth departure from March 11 to March 20, 2024 and the fifth departure from March 20 to April 1, 2024, (this route would be during the Holy Week period).

The facilities of the Norwegian Sky are designed for passengers to experience a cruise full of entertainment, leisure, gastronomy and relaxation.

Cruise itinerary

The 12-day cruise (January 2024, departing from La Romana) Punta Cana (La Romana), Bonaire, Curaçao, Aruba, Grenada, Kingstown, Barbados, St. Lucia, Antigua, St. Kitts, St. Maarten, and Tortola.

While the 09-day cruise (March – April 2024, departing from La Romana and making cabotage within our island in the tourist terminal of Cabo Rojo, Province of Pedernales)

Punta Cana (La Romana), Cabo Rojo (Pedernales), Aruba, Curaçao, Bonaire, Grenada, Barbados, St. Lucia and Tortola.

The Port Authority emphasized that due to the diversity of terminals in the Dominican Republic, the Norwegian Sky cruises, which have a duration of 9 days, will be making cabotage in the country through the tourist terminals of La Romana, La Romana Province and Cabo Rojo, Pedernales Province (under construction).

On other occasions, the ship has made these calls between La Romana, in the port of La Romana and Amber Cove, located in the province of Puerto Plata with Carnival Cruise Line.
